SMB

Aggregate SMB data tells you how the market is performing. It doesn’t tell you how your borrowers are performing.

While a broad market read on the SMB lending space is helpful, it is not a replacement for understanding the lending conditions within each sector individually. A look at the data in aggregate may reveal that the conditions for small and medium-sized businesses is relatively stable, but a closer look at each sector may reveal differences in performance and credit feasibility. Both David Snitkof, the General Manager of SMB lending at Ocrolus, and Patrick Shubert, the Head of Data Science at Ocrolus, will discuss the findings of the latest State of SMB Lending report and the implications it has for the rest of 2026.

What you'll learn:

Why broad SMB market data is incomplete without segment-level cuts โ€” and which dimensions reveal the most decision-relevant signal

How the picture changes when you look at revenue composition, expense burden and obligation coverage within specific cohorts rather than across the full applicant pool

What application behavior varies by segment, including inquiry patterns and multi-lender shopping activity, and what that tells lenders about intent and pipeline quality

Where fraud signals are concentrated when the data is cut at the right level of specificity โ€” behaviors that aggregate reads obscure
