RESEARCH REPORT SERIES

State of SMB lending

A quarterly two-part series on SMB lending health — operational indicators in part one, financial performance in part two — drawn from real application data processed by Ocrolus.

State of SMB lending

Most SMB lending analysis starts with what lenders are doing. These reports show SMB borrowers are behaving.

The State of SMB lending is a quarterly two-part publication from Ocrolus drawing on application data processed across hundreds of thousands of SMB credit applications each month. Part one examines operational indicators — payroll activity, insurance coverage, overdraft frequency, payment rail usage and fixed obligations — that reflect how small businesses are managing their finances day to day. Part Two looks back at financial performance across the same period, tracking how revenue, cash flow and obligation coverage are moving across the borrower population.

Together, the two parts give lenders a ground-level view of SMB financial health as it moves through the lending pipeline, updated every quarter.
