Celebrating the Remarkable Women of Ocrolus

There is a considerable gender gap in the fintech industry as women represent only 30% of the workforce, and less than 12% are leaders.

At Ocrolus, we have our sights on surpassing the status quo and achieving a 35% female workforce because we know that our culture and business will benefit from more women’s perspectives. We are also making positive strides within our team to support women and enable a positive and inclusive culture. We’re proud that our team has fostered a close-knit community fiercely working together to change the industry for good.

Ocrolus is also proud to partner with organizations dedicated to empowering women worldwide. For example, through our partnership with Kiva, Ocrolus supported 553 entrepreneurs (493 female entrepreneurs!) in 41 countries in 2021. In addition, Ocrolus is an early sponsor of NYC Fintech Women, an organization of 10,000+ members that connects, promotes, and empowers women in fintech.

On this International Women’s Day, we highlight some of the women of Ocrolus who are leading by example:

Nicole Newlin

Nicole Newlin

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    SVP of Solutions; Our team is a five-function group that is the face of Ocrolus to the client. We manage all client onboarding, support needs, expansion, and renewals. 
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    As the youngest of 3, I’m a daughter who balances the dynamics between parents and children- the moderator and mediator! I’m also one of the Magnificent 7 – a strong group of 7 women who have stayed friends for 20 years and support each other professionally and personally. 
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    Exercise- no matter what is going on that day, I make time for a run, yoga, or just a long walk by myself. That’s non-negotiable. 
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “Ability is of little account without opportunity.” – Lucille Ball 
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    I heard this advice from Bonita Stewart in our Talk of her Town Podcast for NYC Fintech Women: Women need to ensure they are on revenue teams, owning P&L, finding out what the men are working on, and engaging in growing their careers, so they are allowed wider opportunities.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am a People Operation Generalist; I support our unique and thriving organization in an empathetic and genuine manner by providing employee support, creating and refining policies, streamlining our processes, and onboarding new HR systems and tools.
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I’m a daughter, sister, best friend of two, and fiancée.
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    I’m not sure that I’ve mastered this balance yet, but one thing that has helped is reading. I read every single day. I never want to miss an opportunity to learn something new.  
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:

  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    You’re enough.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am a Product Manager at Ocrolus. I work to ensure we deliver great products to internal and external clients.
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a daughter, wife, friend, and most importantly, pet mom to two adorable rescue cats!
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    I timebox my work a lot. Doing this enables me to schedule my day and look back efficiently and not feel that I wasted the day since I can see what I have accomplished each day, each week, and even each year. 
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “Listening to others, especially those with whom we disagree, tests our ideas and beliefs. It forces us to recognize, with humility, that we don’t have a monopoly on the truth” – Janet Yellen
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    Never compare yourself to others; everyone has their own pace. Your best benchmark is yourself.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I work as a Senior Billing Analyst at Ocrolus. I manage the company’s end-to-end billing to cash process and ensure consistent cash flow.
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a daughter, sister, friend, professional, and a good listener for everyone around me.
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    I’ve had a habit of writing down my to-dos and priorities to keep myself on track since I can’t recall when, and once I’ve ticked off all those checkboxes, I get all the time I have left.
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “Unless I am myself, I am nobody.” – Virginia Woolf
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    Make your own definition of success and turn your passions into a legitimate career goal.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am the Director of Mortgage Product. I help develop new ideas and execute objectives to deliver revolutionary new technology to our partners in the Mortgage Industry. 
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a wife, a mother to two daughters, a sister to my best friend, and a daughter. I am also very involved in non-profit organizations and charities that help support our community.
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    I am proud to have my daughters see me in my office as a strong woman in a leadership role with a critical mission, but when work is done, I like to put on some music and have my family gather in the kitchen while we prepare dinner together. This is our way to switch from school/work to home, with smells and sounds that bring joy. 
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “Fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” – RBG
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    As a woman, it is essential to advocate for yourself, but it is also important to advocate for our female colleagues as well. Women tend to be overly competitive in the workplace when we are in fact stronger together. We need to build each other up and provide a network of support.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am a Senior Software Engineer at Ocrolus. I focus on software development and quality. In addition, I am responsible for identifying and eliminating defects in a product.
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a daughter, a wife, a sister, and a fun aunt to the cutest niece in the world.
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    I make sure I start my day with yoga. It energizes me for the day. After that, I find the time for a brisk walk in the evening, even on a busy day at work. Then, of course, cooking is something that I find therapeutic as well.
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “You have to be unique and different and shine in your way.”  – Lady Gaga
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    Don’t be agreeable all the time, learn to negotiate, and always remember no question is a dumb question.

Jinzi Feng

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am the Director of Product Marketing. I help Ocrolus connect our products to market and keep them there! This includes articulating product values in a way that resonates with the market, representing the voice of customers (before, during, and after launch!), and driving product adoption and advocacy. 
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a wife, a mother to a five-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son, and a single child with aging parents living overseas. 
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    Honestly, I have not found that balance daily; it is always challenging to pull myself away from work and equally challenging to step away from time with family. I tend to lean in when work becomes demanding with critical deadlines, but I make sure to take breaks and spend quality time with my family afterward. When I am on vacation, I am really on vacation, 100% focused on my family and myself.

  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    Make investing in relationships a priority – cultivate friendship, find mentors and connect with professional communities in and outside of work. At the end of the day, feeling engaged at work and having a sense of belonging brings more career satisfaction than we do at work.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am the Senior Workforce Operations Manager at Ocrolus; I manage various operations-related projects to improve efficiency.
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a responsible daughter, sister, friend, and a very involved aunt of two cute nephews. 
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    Prioritizing and multitasking without impacting the quality of the deliverables often helps me complete my tasks on time, ensuring I have ample time to balance my personal and professional commitments. 
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “There are no regrets in life, just lessons.” – Jennifer Aniston
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    Work hard, focus on your work, and don’t be afraid to speak up and express yourself.

Trisha Tolentino

  • My role at Ocrolus, and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I’m a Solutions Engineer, a cross-functional role that allows me to wear many hats. Recently, I’ve transitioned more towards the “pre-sales” side, where I get to demonstrate the value of Ocrolus to prospects in tandem with our sales team. I’ve also worked in post-sales technical consulting, supporting our other client-facing teams.
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I’m a life partner to my favorite guy in the world, a daughter of first-generation Asian American immigrants, a little sister to an NYPD sergeant, forever a dog mom to the four chihuahuas I grew up with, and a friend to the many kind souls I’ve met along the way. 
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    Don’t forget to set boundaries and do what you love outside of work. After a long day, I’ll often decompress by cooking an elaborate meal; my boyfriend and I can enjoy dinner over a nice glass of wine. Sometimes, I’ll play video games, listen to music, or cozy up with an excellent book. Whatever you need to do to feel human again, make time to do it.

  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    Fear is the mind-killer. Impostor syndrome is real, especially when you’re young and very new to what it means to be a “working professional” in a male-dominated field such as tech. This can turn into a classic case of self-sabotage if you let those thoughts linger; don’t let this unnecessary stress live rent-free in your head. There are plenty of affirmations out there on overcoming impostor syndrome, so choose one that works best for you, then go out there and crush it like the badass lady you are.

  • My role at Ocrolus and how I support the Ocrolus mission:
    I am an Assistant Manager for Financial Planning and Analysis. I create and manage financial dashboards and reports for management and key stakeholders and provide insights for crucial decision-making. 
  • The different roles I play (mother, sister, wife, friend, etc.):
    I am a sister and mentor to my ever-childish younger brother, a wife of a very amazing and supportive husband, and a daughter to both sets of parents.
  • A habit that helps me strike a balance between my personal and professional roles:
    It has taken immense effort on my part. Still, the only way I found was to shut off my mind about work and engage in activities with friends and family. To break the thought cycle, I engage in yoga and meditation. 
  • An inspirational quote from the woman I admire the most:
    “Never be afraid to take the plunge. Things that seem undoable can be done only if you take that first step.” – My mother, who started her own business at the age of 45
  • A piece of advice I would give to young female professionals starting their careers:
    It’s okay if you have not figured out the next few years of your life. Just give 100% to what you are doing right now, and things will fall into place.
